TmP continued, this time featuring my top 3 peeves from what we've seen and heard of The Hobbit movie so far.
- My No. 1 nightmare is undisputedly the elf version of Chuck Norris called Tauriel. Ugh. As if Mary Sues weren't bad enough in fanfic; now the modern notion of female coolness has to make its way into 'canon' material as well.
- It's closely followed by the silly collection of 10 Dwarves (3 look okay, I'll give them that). Because we all know that "movies are not books, changes have to be made, and Dwarves have to look different so the audience can tell them apart".
Pfft. Except with short beards, they're not Tolkien's Dwarves anymore. Also, different-looking doesn't necessarily entail 'silly-looking'.
- And then there's that lovely 'mum's empathy' moment between Galadriel, a repentant Exile, and a higher spiritual being, Gandalf. Though when I recall the clueless grandpa in RotK, who apparently doesn't know what he should be doing and why, the Hobbit movie continuing in this trend is by no means surprising. Manwë would weep to see that.

Rita the scandal-hunting journalist belongs to J.K. Rowling, The Hobbit book to the J.R.R. Tolkien Estate, and as for its new additions, they can be credited to, or blamed on, depending on taste, PJ's movie team.
